Banking, tax, and visas
After registration, you need to open a corporate bank account. Chinese banks require the legal representative to appear in person and may ask for business proof. Opening an account can take several weeks. Consider banks with English service, such as Bank of China or ICBC.
Tax registration is mandatory. The company must file monthly or quarterly tax returns, even if no revenue. Key taxes include corporate income tax (25% standard rate, with possible reductions for small businesses), VAT (rates vary by industry), and stamp duty. You may need a local accountant.
For foreign employees, work visas (Z visa) and residence permits are required. The process involves obtaining a work permit from the local Science and Technology Bureau and a residence permit from the Exit-Entry Administration. Employers must sponsor the application. Dependents can apply for S visas. Plan for several weeks to complete the process.
